It’s Been A Successful Year Of Proving People Really Do Have Influence

December 15, 2021
Kirsti Rivett
Wow, what a year! There’s been ups and downs for sure, but one thing that remains is that influencer marketing has creamed the cake when it comes to marketing tactics for 2021 and we look forward to what’s in store for 2022.

If your brand hasn’t yet fully utilised the best marketing tactic of 2021, we hope this blog can showcase why and how influencer marketing can change the game for your brand in 2022.

Influencer Marketing Continues To Grow

It’s safe to say influencer marketing has grown phenomenally year on year, with the right stats to prove it too.

According to the latest influencer marketing benchmark report from Influencer Marketing Hub, the influencer marketing industry was forecast to be worth $13.8 billion in 2021, up from $4.1 billion since 2020.

Impressive right? Perhaps not as impressive as the statistic that 80% of consumers have purchased something via an influencer recommendation.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise Google Trends shared that the search term ‘influencer marketing’ grows by 5000% each month and it’s also the very reason why brands are using influencer marketing now more than ever before in the history of marketing.

A Glance Of Our Year At People Have Influence

Although times have been turbulent worldwide from 2020 and all through 2021, influencer marketing has remained stronger than ever, and for that we are grateful. We’ve got to work with some incredible people, with incredible talents and watched some extraordinary campaigns take place.

We sure are grateful to have such a diverse group of people we work with, with so many unique skills and influence. But we are also even more grateful for our internal team’s dedication, hard work, laughter and diversity – all of which allows us to perform to the best of our ability. Each and every team member at P.H.I works in their very own “zone of genius”, is valued beyond belief and is always up for the challenge of making P.H.I. the best in the business.

We are also really excited to announce our new service offering for guest listing. Yes, you heard that correctly – goodbye COVID and hello events! Word of mouth is still an incredibly powerful tool and having the right people at your event can really get people talking. We’re hopeful that events will be back in full swing sometime during 2022.

Influencer Marketing Campaigns We Loved Being A Part of

Whilst we were involved in many successful influencer marketing campaigns of 2021, we’d love to highlight two that really showcase the power of people.

#1 Watch Republic Campaign

#MyWatchMyJourney

Watch Republic was relatively new to influencer marketing and our goal for this campaign was to showcase the brand’s online platform to purchase watches, creating awareness about the variety of watch brands they stock online. From Fossil, to Armani Exchange, from Michael Kors, to Skagen, and from Diesel to Dior - Watch Republic stocks a fantastic variety of the best watch brands.

We wanted to take consumers on a watch purchasing journey, as buying a new watch isn’t as instinctive as buying a bottle of hair conditioner. With the main objective being Reach & Awareness and the secondary objective being website traffic, we built the mechanics for this campaign in order to not only reach, but exceed the targets we initially promised our client.

Utilising influencers with a higher following and using our tools to not only predict, but guaranteed impressions, the campaign spanned over a period of 3 months, wherein each week, consumers were reminded about Watch Republic through the use of 12 brilliant content creators.

Over the 3 month campaign the results we achieved greatly exceeded

what we had originally guaranteed ! In the end, this all came down to the sourcing and vetting process. By ensuring we used the right people that were a brand fit for Watch Republic and who had engaged audiences, we nearly tripled our impressions target and had one of our highest ever campaign engagement rates of 13.5% (industry standard is around 1.7%)and when you think about it, we used 12 people, in order to reach over ONE MILLION consumers online. Now that is the power of people and word of mouth reviews.

Let’s look at another success story….

#2 Yaga Campaign

Yaga reached out to People Have Influence back in 2019 to help bring awareness to the brand in a new market - South Africa. Yaga is an online marketplace for buying and selling pre-loved items in South Africa. Through careful consideration, we worked closely with the team at Yaga and came up with the best 12 month strategy to meet the brand’s objectives. We tried multiple different strategies in order to do discover the one that best suited the brand, deciding on whether to focus on either buyers or sellers, we trialled different approaches from once off to always on, and after 2 years of working together, we are proud to announce that Yaga is one of the fastest growing apps in South Africa. Since then, we have developed a beautiful, repeatable process in order to source, vet and manage fashionista’s to shoot and sell their clothes online and join the #YagaTribe

These influencers showed their audience the entire process of opening their stores on Yaga, uploading their items to their store, speaking authentically about the best tips and tricks to creating a successful store online, as well as focusing on the safety of using Yaga. Each influencer took their audience on their journey with them, ending with a live store opening where the audience could purchase the items directly off Yaga.

The results were incredible! Almost all the influencers stores were sold out, creating extra income for themselves. Some girls were earning R10K plus on a monhtly basis, JUST from selling their pre-loved clothing. And if you know us, and what we believe in, it’s people. So watching these incredible people being compensated for the work they put in - was not only rewarding for them, but rewarding for us too. The content they shared was of high quality, resulting in high engagement and awareness of the Yaga online marketplace app, with overall results of more people buying and selling off Yaga.

We used 50 girls, to reach 2.9 million consumers online, which is almost 5% of the ENTIRE South African population! How cool is that?

Influencer Marketing Trends To Look Out For In 2022

It’s no secret that video is driving a huge consumption for social media users across the world, but even more engrossing is video content that provides authentic storytelling. We’ve seen this type of content playout heavily throughout 2021 and we know that it is here to stay for an influencer marketing trend for 2022. Why is that so? Well, simply put, audiences can see right past cookie-cutter advertising campaigns and they are becoming blind to marketing messaging.

Because of this, the following will be important in influencer marketing for 2022:

Data-driven influencer marketing

Influencer marketing should always be followed closely by the data it provides, and as much as influencers can tell a story, so does data. We provide a live dashboard report throughout the duration of every campaign we create so that our clients can watch the statistics and success of their campaign change in real-time.

Always-on influencer marketing

Specific campaigns such as launch campaigns or new products are great, and they really work! But having an ‘always-on’ approach to influencer marketing will keep a brand top of mind consistently, and keep conversions coming through in a steady stream.

Cross-channel campaigns

Consumers are not linear and our consumption habits are cross-pollinated by a number of social channels to pick and choose from as we wish. From Facebook and LinkedIn to Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and more – it’s important that every campaign meets the consumer where they are interacting on each different channel.
