As a specialized African influencer marketing agency based in Cape Town, we don’t just believe that “local is lekker,” we know that local is best. This year has been a real tester, but you know who pulled through? The Mzansi brands who employ breadwinners of families, and who genuinely care about doing what’s best for their staff and the environment. The resilience and ‘never give up’ attitude of our clients - and the clients we’d love to have - is what has inspired the team at P.H.I. to dig deep and pull through.
So instead of focusing on the successes of our team, here’s a show of thanks to the proudly South African brands we’ve got on our radar and who give our team the feels (and empty bank balances).
We going to call this one: An Influencer Marketing Agencies Mzansi Must-Haves for Christmas...
If you’ve never met her before, Phi McCann is the wonder woman who started People Have Influence, thanks to her love of working with local influencers and brands. So when she shared her fave local brands, we were all eyes and shopping lists as we know it’s gonna be good.
When asked where we should be shopping this festive season, Phi said: “hands down Shop Epiphany which is an online directory with an entire local brands section.” There you have it folks.
And for those looking for the best cozzies for the pool, beach, dam or catamaran, Granadilla Swim and Summah are two brands basically built for the gram! Then to help with the sunblock breakouts and long days sweating it out under the sun, Skoon is Phi’s go-to skincare fix, and we love that it’s cruelty-free!
Planning a style refresh or makeover for your home in 2023? Here’s Matthew’s faves, and FYI this guy’s style is impeccable. Cross Poly Nations is where you’ll find all the textures, throws and threads, while Moodmakers Cape Town is the place for ambiance. And if your home is good but your clothes are not so much… shop guilt-free at Akina Label, the place for sustainable, slow fashion.
If you haven’t already, do yourself a f(l)avour and check out Sweet Lions Heart’s IG page. The buttercream babes make the most delish (moist - sorry) cakes, and there’s a reason they have over 100k followers. Then for more works of beauty head on over to Black Betty, a female-owned jewelry studio that has us sharing our ring sizes with our partners. And if you’re still planning your beach looks, January and June is where you need to spend some time scrolling, adding and paying.
Picture the scene here: Sweet Lions Heart cake, with your Black Betty Bling on a beach in your J & J’s- Emma we get your idea of your picks here… and we LOVE IT!
It’s early we know, but if you’re planning your resolutions and manifesting a 2023 year of working out, then Burnt is your first stop. It’s far easier pushing through a plank when your outfit is cute, right? Then there’s one of the OG local brands we all can’t get enough of, Freedom of Movement - the sneakers are gorge, we know! And just as we frothed over Black Betty, Famke Jewellery is another hot contender deserving a spot on your IG “following” list.
We’re ‘totes’ spending a lot of time checking out the bags at Sealand, just as we reach for a chilled Devil’s Peak Lager. Ah life is good RN! And like Lisset, Ali’s third pick would have to be Freedom of Movement - a sign you really should check them out if you haven’t already.
Nick is a First Ascent outdoorsy type of guy, so you’ll probably bump into him on a hike or run this December in and around the Mother City. He is friendly so say “hi,” then tell him all about the dishes you made using his other all time favorite, Mrs Ball’s Chutney!
*Carms, we had to include you in this blog because it feels like only yesterday you left for your adventures to the UK
When you’re in the influencer marketing game, your fashion sense and knowledge of local brands to follow is up there with the very best. So give Masch Leather a follow (or visit their store in Stellenbosch), and also check out Me&B, a Mother and Daughter design duo absolutely killing it when it comes to fashion for almost every size and shape of woman, with sizes ranging from 32 to 46, all lovingly locally made.
If you can’t find your size on Me&B’s website then check out The Local Edit, Georgie’s go-to app for all things local fashion, lifestyle and pet products. The app was created by the powerhouse team, Christine Meintjes and Berdine Swart, the inspirational women who started The Pretty Blog 11 years ago. And when it comes to which brands Georgie is shopping on the app, Thandana Bags is a wishlist item. P.S. Our momfluencers love the brand too!
If you’re still unsure what to get, then take a look at Amanda’s local loves. A firm favorite in the office is Buttanut which has practically every kind of nut butter and but-based milk options available. And when she’s not killing it out there doing campaign work, Amanda is teaching us all a thing or two about skin care and self-love, with Luamu as her fave cruelty-free and vegan skincare range. Lastly, take a look at the Local Thread the online shop Amanda’s (always) getting deliveries from. It’s a “South African-sourced marketplace, offering a curated collection of crafted goods.” Be sure to check them out on TikTok too if you haven’t already!
Be lekker and share this local blog for a not-so-subtle hint about what you’d like to see under your Christmas tree. There’s inspiration FOR DAAAAAYS, so keep this blog saved for 2023 birthdays, treat yo’self experiences and shopping that’s doing the most for families across SA.
#supportlocal because of many reasons and you’ll be super impressed with the products, services and overall quality. If you noticed a brand in here that deserves a special shoutout- copy this blog's URL and share it to that brand to make their day <3
Happy shopping beautiful people,
We hope you have a wonderful festive season,
Much love always,
The P.H.I. Fam x
