#ONEMILONEMONTH we have an update for you…

Just a quick recap of what happened and why we did what we did...the civil unrest occurred in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces from 9 to 18 July 2021, and was sparked by the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma for contempt of court. There was a lot of unrest, anger and sadness in our country and we wanted to be involved in making a difference to those that were affected by this.

On the 15th of July, P.H.I. decided not to go silent and think of solutions that were in fact in our control. We put our pre-planned content on hold and used our platform as a place of sharing information to help those in need. Then on the 23rd of July we shared our idea to the public of raising One Million Rand in One Month, to help those affected by the SA Unrest. The call to action was for people to donate R500 to our #OneMilOneMonth campaign in order to help those in need and in return, get a beautiful People Have Influence Beanie as a tiny token of our appreciation for the support. We bought the beanies, embroidered them and packaged them. People donated via EFT and by using their Instagram handles as their reference, we then reached out to them to get their delivery addresses. We then partnered with Quench, a South African based Tech Startup, who delivered the beanies to the people who donated.

Through the power of social media and our beautiful friends and followers, we managed to raise R35000 in 30 days with a total of 60 people donating to the cause. People who have influence, most definitely also have IMPACT. It was incredible to see what the power of “word of mouth” can do and how South Africans truly stand together when we need to.

If you donated, told a friend or shared our story we appreciate it more than you know.

The money went to the following 5 foundations from Durban as well as P.H.I.’s foundation in Cape Town, Move For Two.

1. Gift of the Givers

We donated R10 0000  to the KZN / Gauteng Looting & Fires Disaster Management Fund which is to support the devastation that occurred as a result of the Fire & looting. This money is evenly distributed for Food Supplies, Medical as well as Livelihoods & Business Support.

2. LIV Foundation

We donated R5000 to the LIV Foundation. This foundation aims to Rescue a child, Restore a life,Raise a leader and Release a star. The LIV model is long term cluster foster care, where children have a sense of belonging in a supportive community. The LIV foundation places orphaned and vulnerable children in a family environment where all their needs are met by taking a holistic approach to physical, emotional and spiritual healing.

3. Angels Care

We donated R5000 to the mission of Angels’ Care Centre which is a foundation to provide for the optimal growth and development (mentally, physically and spiritually) of the children they serve in a safe and loving environment. The Centre provides an environment where children  are provided care, guidance and protection from people and things that seek to deny these God given rights intentionally, unintentionally or through apathy.

4. Hope Foundation

We donated R5000 to the HOPE SA Organisation. The Hope SA foundation has been feeding the hungry since the onset of COVID and the resulting poverty. The Riots in SA resulted in  massive destruction and food shortages in KZN with 160 000 job losses. AS A RESULT our nation has suffered a great injustice and innocent families lives are affected.

Hope SA  Needed our help for the disaster relief to purchase food, baby & Pet  supplies,  pay for transport and delivery vehicles, for distribution to those in need in KZN from Johannesburg, which is approximately 600kms away.

5. Move For Two

We donated a whopping R10 000 to the Move For Two Foundation. This is People Have Influence’s charity of choice since the day we launched the company in 2019. Move for Two is a foundation that, through the magical medium of dance, provides children in Gugulethu with life skills, self confidence and purpose, so that they can move above and beyond their circumstances. They give children the chance to perform on stage with all proceeds made feeding back into their community. They run an annual showcase, which is an opportunity to teach our children how to write a budget, break even and make a profit. This empowers our children by teaching them basic entrepreneurial skills.

We may not have reached our one million mark but we sure did make a difference. Raising R35 000 in 30 days, thanks to the united collaboration of 60 incredible people.

...and that is all that counts. “Reach for the moon and if you miss you'll land amongst the stars''. This statement is is testament to what we achieved and we could not be more proud of the people who helped us to help those in need <3
